Success Stories

Health and Education for Haiti has been fortunate to be a part of the lives of so many wonderful people. Here are some of their stories:

Cleft Palate

This 10-month old boy was born with cleft palate. Cleft palate makes it very challenging for infants to breastfeed, and he came into our clinic underweight. Cleft palate also increases risks of ear infections and speech problems. This is on top of the social stigma that comes along with such a visible birth defect. Health and Education for Haiti referred him to a surgeon who could correct his condition. We paid for all out-of-pocket costs, including the costs for the patient and his mother to travel to Hinche to have the surgery performed. Just $100 enabled this child to have this fixed.

Thirty-one year old Nadia developed cataracts. Untreated, her vision deteriorated to the point that she could no longer function and was unable to care for her family. Nearly blind, Nadia was brought to one of our clinics. For just $100 Nadia was able to receive cataract surgery and her sight was restored.
